The Wine Key is proud to welcome Sandford Wragg on board as our West Coast correspondent. Sandford is a good friend, as well as an old colleague of mine. Currently shaking things up in Sacramento as the wine director at Tuli Bistro. Welcome Sandford!

About this Blog

I started this blog because I want to create a little more noise online about great wines made with as little manipulation as possible.

I also started this blog because I am becoming a jerk.

My exposure to the sort of wine described (vaguely) above has been so great that whenever I'm exposed to highly commercial, factory-made stuff, my reaction is scathing. I can be a real jerk about wines I don't like. I'm not much fun at parties. I'm trying to mellow out a bit, and give serious attention to the stuff I do like. It's just too easy to make fun of crap wine. There's more great wine out there than a lot of people realize.... and I figure it will be more rewarding to be positive and focus on that.

After a lengthy period of no posts, The Wine Key has decided to bring on a west coast correspondent - Sandford Wragg - with the idea that the creative blogging power of two can rescue this thing from dormancy.

I may, from time to time, write about a wine that I sell. Whenever this happens, I will state my relationship with the producer. I understand that some people may detect in this a conflict of interest.

I don't care.

There are many reasons I do this blogging thing. One of the main reasons is to share information with a community of folks who are as excited about great wine as me. I am astounded by the amount of quality wine writing available for free on the internet. I am very excited about this new medium for learning, teaching & sharing.... and to put it bluntly, I want in! As someone who has been buying, tasting and selling wine for over a decade, I feel I have something to offer. I plan to use this blog as a way to step outside of the realm of what I sell, and focus on other wines that I'm enthused with. However, I really dig the stuff that I sell, and have a lot to say about the producers I work with..... so it stands to reason that they will invariably creep into my postings here & there. It's truly because I like the wines, and the people behind them. I have no ulterior motive. If the potential conflict of interest still really bugs you...

I still don't care.
